General Conditions
All Academic members, including New York and University of Louisville subscribers must complete an online education program each year. For our New York membership to qualify and receive 1st excess policy coverage ($1M above $1.3 M primary policy) at no charge, policyholders must complete, by New York regulation (1) In Year 1: a five-hour course, a Post Project (critical case review) and evaluation, and (2) at renewal, and annually thereafter, a three hour follow-up course, a Post Project and evaluation.

We urge our physicians to print a certificate of completion, available at the end of the session. Although you are not required to send the certificate to Academic, the certificate will serve as a reminder and indicate the date of completion.

Free Excess Coverage for New York Subscribers:

New York subscribers must complete the appropriate course before applying for excess policy coverage. By completing the appropriate course subscribers will become eligible for the July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013 1st excess policy coverage.

New Insurance Regulations specify that required courses must be completed before the start of any excess policy issuance year. There is no retroactivity.

Academic's excess application form will ask the subscriber to sign and affirm that the applicant has successfully completed Academic's applicable online excess education course. These applications will be sent by Academic in early May. They must be returned before June 1, 2012 in order for underwriters to have ample time to complete, process and check your enrollment before the July 1st effective excess coverage date.

Please be advised that unless the applicable course is timely completed and attestation is set forth in the excess application, the free excess insurance will not be provided. If you do not take the online course, or if you do not successfully complete the course, you will be able to apply to purchase an excess policy.

Please note that online course content and requirements may be subject to change as a result of new regulations or interpretations of existing insurance regulations.
